Ears — macOS meeting recorder into Markdown
A macOS menu bar recorder that turns meetings into Markdown.
Download for macOSLatest version 1.7.179
What it does
- Records meetings on macOS from the menu bar: your microphone and the system audio (the other participants) as two separate tracks.
- Writes a Markdown transcript and a summary into a folder you choose — designed to sit inside an Obsidian vault.
- Transcription and summarisation can run locally on your Mac (whisper.cpp, Ollama, MLX) or through a cloud provider you configure (Deepgram, OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter).
- Identifies who spoke, using the meeting's own participant list via an optional Chrome extension for Google Meet.
- Captures periodic screenshots of the call window, if you enable it.
- Local search and chat over your past meetings.
Requirements
- macOS 14 or later.
- Asks for Screen Recording, Microphone and Calendar permission on first use.
- Not distributed through the Mac App Store — it is a signed and notarized Developer ID app.
Ears records meetings. Recording other people may require their consent depending on where you and they are — that is your responsibility, not the app's.
